Here is the last of the recipes from our Summer Potluck, Diane's tasty Broccoli and Sun-Dried Tomato Fritatta:http://mindfulcooking.org/recipes/broccoli-and-sun-dried-tomato-frittata
Our Fall Potluck is just two weeks away so we will soon have a supply of new recipes for you. Meanwhile, I wonder whether you are potlucking where you are. Here in Portland, we have a potluck each season where we not only enjoy a plant-based meal but talk about food issues and our own evolving food choices as we move toward a more sustainable diet. The Earth Holder Sangha is interested in knowing what we do, thinking that other groups may want to try potlucking as a mindfulness practice. I am working on writing something about what we do here, but I wonder if there are already mindful potlucks happening elsewhere. Jana in The Netherlands sent photos of a potluck there a couple of years ago. Are those still going on, Jana? Is anyone else involved in something like this? Please tell me all about it!
I heard from a couple of you recently. Betsy in California says,
On one of the facebook sites about one of the tribes, it mentioned The Miss Navajo pageant where women compete to slaughter a sheep. So yes I know they use feathers, leather, etc. in their particular ceremonies but I was really taken back by why certain cultures still have to sacrifice animals? When I read the article I felt very sad and hope that someday all people will respect both the earth and animals so that we can live in peace.
I am sure this subject has come up but I have not read anything about it. If you have any thoughts I would appreciate hearing them. betsy
Does anyone have thoughts to offer Betsy?
Linda in Portland says:
Eve, I thought you would enjoy knowing about the PlantPure Cafe opening in Philadelphia. Maybe eventually we'll have one in Portland! Linda
We have some exciting news! PlantPure, Inc., in partnership with Fernando Peralta, founder and owner of VGE, is launching a new whole foods, plant-based (no oil) restaurant called PlantPure Cafe in Philadelphia, PA, by the end of the year, and you can learn more about it by clicking HERE http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/v-for-vegan/Phillys-about-to-get-its-.... If you have any questions, please feel free to email us. We'd love to know what you think! PlantPure Nation
Sounds good to me! How about our Pennsylvania people --- could you try this cafe and give us a report?
Happy cooking,
Eve
P.S. Our Fall Potluck will be in Vancouver on Oct. 16th. If you will be in the area and want the details, just let me know.
