Steel Cut Oats

A very easy, very healthy breakfast that can be varied in many ways.

Ingredients: 

240 ml 1 c. steel cut oats
950 ml4 c. water

Optional additions:
cinnamon
chia seed
raisins
apple, chopped or sliced
banana
blueberries
nuts

Instructions: 

Bring the water to a boil and stir in the oats. Cook one minute. Remove from heat and let stand overnight. It will be ready in the morning. Reheat or enjoy it cold. Add any amount of spices, fruit, seeds and nuts. If you are on the go, layer fruits and nuts on the bottom of a jar, add the oats and top with spices and small seeds.

If you have time to cook it in the morning, this can also be cooked on the stovetop. Boil the water, add oats, let simmer 15-20 minutes. You may want to add the raisins at the beginning as they get nice and plump during cooking.

Notes: 

Steel cut oats are less processed than rolled oats and so are more nutritious.
