Colors and flavors

Our circle is growing again: Jannette D. of Houston, Texas, is joining us. Welcome, Jannette!

I have two orange-red dishes from our summer potluck for you this week. We had them in the summer, but they could just as well add some fall color to your table now. First is Margaret's bright, refreshing Best Gazpacho: Best Gazpacho

....and then Nancy's easy-peasy, gorgeous Roasted Red Pepper Spread
Roasted Red Pepper-Cashew Dip or Spread

Speaking of color, Mary here in Portland thought her Nutty Roasted Cauliflower (which I featured last week: Nutty Roasted Cauliflower with Couscous and Tofu ) looked pretty dull on the table next to its vibrant neighbors; I think adding small pieces of, say, orange Bell pepper would cheer it up--or maybe pieces of carrot or grated carrot?? Personally, I think it's fine as is, would look pretty in a bright-colored bowl. :)

Personally, I think it looks lovely in that lavender bowl....;-)

Do you remember Linda's link to an article on food and climate? Mary sent these thoughts:
Eve--Love the tone of these notes. Linda's link is comprehensive & fascinating--esp. considering it's only 6 minutes! ---Mary L.

Jan in Portland sent an interesting article on sugar and how we experience flavor--The Money Spent Selling Sugar to Americans is Staggering:

This reminded me of the movie, Fed Up, a good one about what all that sugar is doing to us

Portland people, we have a location for our Nov. 7 potluck. Donna says, I would be happy to host the next gathering at my home: 140 NW 87th Ave Portland 97229 (503 292-0498). Thanks, Donna! It's a new place for us --- anyone who would like help finding it is welcome to come to my house and ride with us. It's still a month away --- I'll send more details when it comes closer.

Happy cooking,
Eve
